More rain is on the way. The North is forecast to get it from October 5 to 8, and Chiang Mai is expected to be hit hardest on the 5th and 6th, with rain covering roughly 60 to 70% of the province. Thunderstorms and strong gusts are possible in places.

Governor Thotsaphon Phueanudom chaired a disaster command meeting today (October 1) at the Irrigation Office 1 smart water centre, and told agencies and residents in risk areas to watch for flash floods and mudslides.

For now, the numbers are calm. The Ping River at the P.1 station by Nawarat Bridge stood at 1.30 metres, which is normal. Mae Ngat Somboon Chol Dam is 93% full, Mae Kuang Udom Thara Dam 71%, and the province’s 13 medium-sized reservoirs 84%.

Officials say the province has 222 temporary shelters ready for more than 69,000 people, pumps at known trouble spots, and 11 safe parking areas for over 14,000 vehicles. A five-level warning system, backed by “FloodBoy” water-level sensors, is meant to give residents 6 to 12 hours’ notice. Alerts will go out around the clock through the Joint Information Centre and Cell Broadcast.

The provincial disaster relief committee has also approved 1,854,000 baht in aid for 206 flooded households. Residents can apply through the “ThangRat” app.
