Senior officials from multiple agencies conducted an inspection of Mae Kha Canal yesterday, visiting the Atthada and Rakaeng bridges to assess wastewater discharge points and drainage systems. The delegation included the secretary-general of the Office of National Water Resources, the director-general of the Pollution Control Department, Chiang Mai governor Rattaphon Naradit and the deputy mayor of Chiang Mai Municipality.
Governor Rattaphon has ordered relevant agencies to identify leakage points, improve treatment systems and increase clean water flushing to push out contaminated water more effectively.
The clean-up is part of broader preparations ahead of Songkran, when large numbers of tourists are expected to visit the canal — often nicknamed “Thailand’s Otaru Canal” — in the hope of boosting the local economy.
