Sarapee police found the driver of a black pickup who was filmed swerving down the Chiang Mai-Lampang Super Highway and holding what looked like a gun out of his window, after a member of the public sent in dashcam footage this morning (5 October).
The clip was submitted to Sarapee Police Station in Chiang Mai. It shows the pickup weaving from side to side, the way a drunk driver might, before the driver pushes a gun-like object out through the door window. The motorist who filmed it was not the only one rattled.
Pol Col Sanchai Panichakul, the station superintendent, sent Pol Capt Weerapan Boonsaeng, deputy duty officer on shift 20, and patrol car 201 to look for the vehicle. They found it, a black four-door Vigo, in the car park of Toyota Tsusho Forklift (Thailand) at 22/1 Moo 7, Sarapee, with the driver nearby.
Police identified him as Khachen, with his surname withheld. He admitted he was the man in the footage, and handed over a .22 rifle with 110 rounds, plus a Thai-made short shotgun with two rounds of ammunition and one spent casing. Officers took him into custody and are proceeding with legal action. Police did not say what charges he faces, or whether he had been drinking, which so far is only how the driving looked on camera.
