Governor Rathapol Naradisorn met with entertainment venue operators, Chiang Mai district officials, Chiang Mai Municipality and related agencies to order a province-wide upgrade of safety measures, following a fire at an entertainment venue in Bangkok. He instructed strict checks on building structures, electrical systems, fire escapes, alarm systems and firefighting equipment, alongside joint police inspections covering opening hours, weapons and drug use. Venues found in violation face legal action and possible closure or licence revocation.
Chiang Mai has 23 legally licensed entertainment venues across four city districts, with a further 2,810 similar establishments province-wide, most in Mueang Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai Municipality has already notified more than 70 key establishments to review their safety measures, with plans to extend this to 300 more venues, while every district has been ordered to inspect venues under its jurisdiction.
The governor stressed that public and tourist safety is the top priority, urging operators to raise safety standards and cooperate with officials to build confidence and prevent similar tragedies in Chiang Mai.
