The Chiang Mai Online Media Association (CMOMA) recently organised “Understanding Taxes in Three Hours,” a practical tax workshop held at the Chong Kham Room, 3rd Floor, RatiLanna Riverside Spa Resort Chiang Mai. The event aimed to strengthen tax literacy among the association’s members, online media professionals, content creators, freelancers, self-employed entrepreneurs, and members of the public.

The workshop attracted overwhelming interest, reaching full capacity prior to the event. Designed to provide participants with a clearer understanding of Thailand’s tax system, the programme focused on equipping attendees with practical knowledge that can be applied to both business operations and personal financial planning.

Before the official opening, participants observed a moment of respectful silence in tribute before Thanita Kunyosying, President of the Chiang Mai Online Media Association, welcomed attendees. In her opening remarks, she emphasised the growing importance of tax knowledge in today’s digital economy, where freelancers, independent professionals and content creators continue to play an increasingly significant role. She also expressed the association’s appreciation to RatiLanna Riverside Spa Resort Chiang Mai for supporting the venue and to Khwanwimon Detchakun, former Senior Revenue Officer of the Revenue Department, for serving as the workshop’s guest speaker.

The event also welcomed remarks from Thipaporn Wichaikhatka, Marketing Communications Manager of RatiLanna Riverside Spa Resort Chiang Mai, who welcomed participants and reaffirmed the hotel’s commitment to supporting professional development initiatives within the local community. She later joined the speaker and the association’s executive committee for a commemorative group photograph before the training session commenced.

The workshop was divided into two sessions covering essential tax topics for freelancers and self-employed professionals, including the fundamentals of personal income tax, tax calculation methods, tax filing procedures, and taxation for income earned under Section 40(8) of the Thai Revenue Code. The programme also addressed common tax pitfalls, legal compliance, and practical guidance, concluding with an interactive question-and-answer session where participants were able to seek advice based on real-life situations.

The event represents another important initiative by the Chiang Mai Online Media Association to strengthen the professional capabilities of its members and the wider digital media community. Through practical training and knowledge-sharing, the association aims to foster stronger collaboration between the public sector, private sector and media organisations while contributing to higher professional standards for online media across Chiang Mai and Northern Thailand.

Looking ahead, the Chiang Mai Online Media Association remains committed to organising educational programmes and professional development activities that enhance industry knowledge, strengthen media professionalism, and build meaningful partnerships that support the sustainable growth of the online media sector throughout Chiang Mai and the North.
