Thousands of people climbed Doi Inthanon this morning to stand around in 11 degrees and wait for the sun, and by all accounts the Kew Mae Pan viewpoint was crowded enough that the cold was probably the least of anyone’s worries.

The viewpoint, inside Doi Inthanon National Park in Chom Thong district, drew well over a thousand visitors at dawn. Cooler air and clear skies have made the three-day holiday a busy one for the park. On October 23 alone, 4,469 people entered, and officials expect the total to pass 10,000 before the long weekend is over.

Separately, the park will reopen the Kew Mae Pan nature trail on November 1. It has been closed through the rainy season to give the vegetation a chance to recover.
