Chiang Mai’s tourism office has launched “MU Month” for September 2026, an initiative encouraging visitors to explore the province’s temples and merit-making traditions.

The event was announced by Chakkrapong Sitthilor, assistant Chiang Mai tourism and sports officer, alongside Supamit Kijjapipat, president of the Chiang Mai Tourism Business Association. Now in its third year, MU Month is supported by the Chiang Mai Tourism and Sports Office and aims to promote faith-based tourism alongside local history, culture and community life.

The centrepiece is “25 Chedis, 25 Districts: a path of faith”, a pilgrimage trail covering significant chedis in all 25 districts of Chiang Mai province. Participants can collect stamps in a Mu Passport at each site and earn “Chok Dee” (lucky) coins depending on how many temples they visit. Stamp collection runs from 1st September to 31st December.

Mu Passports are available free from now until 30th September at the Chiang Mai Tourism Business Association office inside Sirilanna Villa Resort and Spa, the tourism office’s information booth at Chiang Mai International Airport, and at Central Chiang Mai Airport and Central Chiang Mai malls.

Additional events run throughout the month. A blessing ceremony for the Chok Dee coins and a rite to ward off misfortune across the 12 zodiac signs take place on 9th September at the main hall of Wat Phra Singh. Weekly alms-giving ceremonies are held every Saturday — 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th September — at 7am in front of the Phra Chedi Luang at Wat Chedi Luang. A meditation retreat runs from 4th to 12th September at Sirilanna Villa Resort and Spa, and an amulet and Buddhist artefact exhibition, featuring entries from around the country, takes place on 19th and 20th September at Chiang Mai Hall, Central Chiang Mai Airport.
