A press conference was held at the Three Kings Monument on the evening of the 9th January, to announce the upcoming ‘Chiang Mai Night Market’. The briefing was led by Deputy Governor Boonlue Thammathonarak, Khajondej Apichattrakul, Director of the Northern Region of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Phisut Phisutkul, Adviser to the Mayor of Chiang Mai Municipality and Chakree Khattirat, Mayor of San Kamphaeng Municipality.
The event aims to showcase the charm of Chiang Mai through Tha Pae Walking Street and San Kamphaeng Walking Street, under the concepts ‘Tha Pae Remix Chiang Mai Remake’ and ‘San Kamphaeng Remix Chiang Mai Remake’, creating vibrant new attractions and stimulating tourism in early 2026. The briefing was led by Mr Boonlue Thammathonarak, Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai, together with Mr Khajondej Apichattrakul, Director of the Northern Region of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Mr Phisut Phisutkul, Adviser to the Mayor of Chiang Mai Municipality, and Mr Chakree Khattirat, Mayor of San Kamphaeng Municipality.
The event aims to showcase the charm of Chiang Mai through Tha Phae Walking Street and San Kamphaeng Walking Street, under the concepts “Tha Phae Remix Chiang Mai Remake” and “San Kamphaeng Remix Chiang Mai Remake”, creating vibrant new attractions and stimulating tourism in early 2026.
The festival will feature digital light art installations, enhancing the appeal of Chiang Mai’s night-time attractions and reinforcing the city’s image as a sustainable, high-value tourism destination.
Meanwhile, the Director of TAT’s Northern Region stated that the “Chiang Mai Night Market” is designed to present Thai charm through walking street areas, which are important cultural spaces reflecting local lifestyles and community creativity. The event aligns with modern tourist behaviour that prioritises authentic local experiences. It is expected to leave a strong impression on visitors, create opportunities for local entrepreneurs, and stimulate early-year tourism, generating no less than 186 million baht in circulating revenue.
The ‘Chiang Mai Night Market’ will take place from 17th January to 1st March 2026, at San Kamphaeng Walking Street every Saturday and Tha Pae Walking Street every Sunday, from 10am to 10pm. Admission is free. Activities include decorative lighting, Lanna arts and culture, live music performances, and local food and craft stalls, along with free shuttle services.
