Chiang Mai issues summer storm warning for 29th April–1st May

Chiang Mai Governor Ratthapon Naradit issued an urgent radio communication yesterday to district chiefs and municipal mayors across the province, warning of summer storm conditions forecast by the Meteorological Department to affect northern Thailand from today through 1st May.

The department predicts thunderstorms, strong gusts and localised hail, with heavy rain expected in some areas. The volatile conditions are driven by a cold air mass pushing down from China colliding with the intense heat already blanketing the region.

Chiang Mai has been designated a high-priority watch zone, with districts, municipalities and relevant agencies ordered to monitor the situation closely and issue advance warnings to at-risk communities.

Residents are advised to avoid open areas, large trees and unstable structures during storms. Farmers are urged to take precautions to protect crops and livestock.

Anyone affected by storm damage or in need of emergency assistance can contact the 24-hour hotline on 1784 or via the Line account “ปภ.รับแจ้งเหตุ 1784”.
