The event serves as a platform to showcase the charm and identity of Lanna ethnic groups across the upper northern provinces (Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang and Mae Hong Son) to Thai and international visitors, while creating trade opportunities and distributing income to communities through sustainable cultural tourism. It also demonstrates the potential of Lanna ethnic communities to develop products, services and tourism, giving communities a platform to present their way of life, identity and local wisdom.
Over the three days, activities include ethnic costume parades, handicraft and community product sales, a local food market featuring dishes from ethnic groups across the upper north, and rarely-seen tribal performances including fingernail dance, chuay dong performance and Karen tribal music, alongside performances from Lanna artists. Workshops on local wisdom and business matching sessions are also planned to expand marketing opportunities for entrepreneurs and communities.
This is the third instalment of the local ethnic tourism promotion activity, following the first held 3rd-5th July at Central Chiang Mai Airport and the second held 17th-19th July at One Nimman — both editions well received by the public and visitors, generating a combined circulating income of over 2,570,700 baht for the grassroots economy.
Chiang Mai province invites the public and tourists to experience the culture, way of life and wisdom of Lanna ethnic communities at “Colours of Lanna Ethnicity 3rd edition”, 17th-19th July 2026 at Tha Pae Gate.
