Rattapon Naradisorn, governor of Chiang Mai, has paid his farewells to the province’s senior monks and to the sacred objects and shrines said to protect the city, ahead of his appointment as deputy permanent secretary of the Interior Ministry.
He made offerings to the monks and paid respects at the city’s guardian sites for good fortune before leaving for the new job. Heads of government agencies, civil servants and staff from offices around the province turned up to see him off and congratulate him.
The official account of his time in the governor’s chair is warm and general: he was committed, pushed development forward, worked with every sector and kept an eye on residents’ wellbeing. It doesn’t say which projects he’d single out, which is how these send-offs usually go.
The ministry post is described as another step in his civil service career, one that lets him carry on working “for the benefit of the people” from a different desk.
