 | Mon 24 Aug 2026 10:50 ICT

Chiang Mai Deputy Governor Boonlue Thammatharanurak presided over the SKY OF WISHES 2026 press conference at MAYA Lifestyle Shopping Center, marking the 730th anniversary of Nopburi Si Nakhon Ping Chiang Mai and highlighting Yi Peng, lantern traditions and living Lanna culture.

Anucha Sai-un-ruean, Executive of SKY OF WISHES 2026, presented the project’s vision, joined by project executives Sumet Moonrangsi and Venus Thomin.

The main event will take place on 24–25 November 2026 at Mungmana Farm, San Pa Tong, Chiang Mai.

Beyond the Lanterns: Understanding Yi Peng

For international visitors, lanterns rising into the Chiang Mai night sky are among northern Thailand’s most recognisable images. SKY OF WISHES places that visual experience within a wider cultural context of beliefs, craftsmanship, food, performance and ways of life associated with Lanna.

Passing Yi Peng to a New Generation

Chao Chueachan Na Chiang Mai will join youth representatives from Lanna cultural and ethnic communities in a discussion on how Yi Peng traditions can be learned, understood and carried forward by younger generations.

Taking Lanna Culture to an International Audience

Paisan Sukcharoen, President of the Tourism Council of Chiang Mai, Itthirat Sinarak of Chiang Mai Tourism and Sports, and Por Sala Daeng Pitham, a Lanna master craftsman and founder of the Huen Por Sala Daeng cultural learning centre, will discuss pathways for presenting Lanna culture internationally while maintaining its local meaning and cultural roots.

Culture, Experience and a Shared Moment

The press conference also features cultural craft activities and appearances by public figures, with an opening performance and mini concert by Peach The Voice.

These elements connect the event’s cultural narrative with younger and wider audiences.

Executive Vision

The approved Thai statement by Anucha Sai-un-ruean emphasises passing Lanna identity, beliefs, wisdom and ways of life to younger generations and visitors from around the world, while connecting cultural continuity with tourism, the economy, society and local communities.
