As Airports of Thailand (AOT) approaches its 47th anniversary on 1st July, CEO Paveena Jariyatitipong has unveiled a Roadmap through 2037 outlining plans to position Thailand as a world-class aviation hub through the development of all six AOT airports.

For Chiang Mai International Airport specifically, Paveena announced that a new international terminal will be constructed on the southern side of the airport, while the existing terminal buildings will be fully renovated and converted for domestic use. The plan also includes expansion and improvement of the aircraft apron, and the construction of a 1,100-car parking facility. The project is expected to be completed in 2034.

On the security front, AOT is replacing existing screening equipment with 3D CT (computed tomography) baggage X-ray technology and an AI-powered prohibited items detection system.
