Chang Phueak police bring a mobile watchtower to Chiang Mai fair

Police in Chiang Mai have put a lookout tower on wheels, nicknamed the “sky fortress”, to work at the Freedom 250 American Fair Chiang Mai 2026, held at the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization Public Park.

The idea came from Pol Lt Col Phachara Phayakkha, deputy superintendent for crime prevention at Chang Phueak Police Station, who saw mobile observation towers used for security work on a study trip abroad. He brought the concept home and adapted it to how Thai police actually operate.

He worked on it with Pol Lt Col Thanat Patpao, the station’s duty officer superintendent, and their team, who spent time batting ideas around until it became what the station calls the “Police Tower”, or Public Safety Watch.

The appeal is the view. From up high, officers can see all 360 degrees, keep an eye on trouble spots and call in ground units quickly to check on or stop an incident. The station says the aim is for fairgoers and tourists to enjoy the event with some peace of mind.
