Chiang Mai province and municipality are developing Chang Moi into a creative arts and culture district, giving artists, creatives and young people the chance to showcase their work through street art on public space. The project aims to breathe new life into the historic neighbourhood under the concept “Chang Moi, Clear Canal, Beautiful Street”.

Chang Moi Road was once a thriving commercial street, linking the city centre with Kad Luang and reflecting the way of life, culture and stories of Chiang Mai people over a long period. Development of the area is intended to preserve that original identity while adding new colour through contemporary art.

The project also gives local artists a platform to show their work, share inspiration and create a space for exchange between artists, the community and visitors. Organisers say it should help stimulate the local economy, supporting small business operators, craft shops, cafes and creative ventures run by younger generations, allowing them to grow alongside efforts to preserve the value of the old town.

Cooperation between the public sector, private sector and community is expected to help turn Chang Moi Road back into an arts landmark for Chiang Mai, a street art destination with its own identity that reflects the city’s charm, and a key stop for both Thai and international visitors.

Chiang Mai province is inviting artists, creatives, young people and members of the public to take part in adding colour to the public space and help develop Chang Moi into a lively arts and cultural tourism destination, sharing the beauty of Chiang Mai with visitors from around the world.

Those interested in joining the project or presenting their work can contact Chiang Mai Municipality for further details.
