CityNews – A car driven by a disabled man swerved to avoid a car that cut him off before hitting a pickup truck causing his car to burst into flames at a u-turn on the Chiang Mai – Hang Dong road.
The collision ended with the car’s engine catching alight before rapidly igniting the rear end of the car.
Witnesses rushed to rescue the disabled man, 53-year-old Narong Paengkaew, who was left unconscious.
Fortunately witnesses managed to save the man before the car was fully engulfed in flames.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
It took resuce services 20 minutes to put out the fire, while the driver was sent to hospital, only 100 metres away from the incident.
After the driver recovered, he told CityNews that he swerved to avoid a car that cut out in front of him. As he is disabled, he has a specially adapted acceleration stick instead of a foot pedal. He pushed the stick while he was swerving, causing the car to accelerate into the back of a pickup.
The driver who cut in front of Narong is currently unidentified.
