The Freedom 250: American Fair officially opened on Friday evening at Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) Park, bringing a lively celebration of American culture, music, food and entertainment to the city. The three-day event, running from 16–18 October, is free and open to everyone.

Organised by the U.S. Consulate General Chiang Mai to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, the fair was officially opened by U.S. Consul General Kelia Cummins, joined by Chiang Mai Governor Thosaphon Phuean-udom and PAO President Pichai Lertpongadisorn. International consuls, government officials, representatives from the private sector and members of the public also attended the opening ceremony.

The event celebrates the longstanding friendship between Thailand and the United States, bringing together Chiang Mai’s Thai, American and international communities through a colourful programme of activities and entertainment.

Visitors can enjoy live music, jazz performances, swing dancing and marching bands, alongside a corn maze, pumpkin patch, photo spots and displays of iconic American vehicles, including Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Jeep vehicles, Ford pickup trucks and John Deere tractors.

For those looking for adventure, the fair also features rock climbing and cave exploration activities with Progression, while families can enjoy inflatable attractions, DIY activities and traditional American fairground games.

Other highlights include cooking demonstrations by professional chefs, creative workshops with MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum, exhibitions from the Jim Thompson House Museum and Jim Thompson Art Centre, as well as cowboy costume contests and a fun chicken-calling competition.

Food lovers can explore more than 40 booths featuring American-inspired dishes, local businesses and a variety of food and refreshments.

Beyond the festivities, the American Fair aims to strengthen people-to-people connections, celebrate 250 years of American history, innovation and culture, and bring another exciting community event to Chiang Mai.
