After a poll which ran for 48 hours saw 13,698 people from all over Chiang Mai and beyond vote on whether or not to keep the ten geese on the moat, following a week long experiment to house the geese moatside while they spent their days eating the overgrown duckweed, 90% said yes.

As the city waited for the results of the poll, the geese have been taken away for a health check, vaccination and microchip and will soon be issued with official municipal staff ID.

The municipality has said that the geese didn’t do much good in terms of helping clean up the moat and its water, but they have become a beloved part of the city and now their main purpose will be to add life and joy to the moat.

As to the Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO), which released eight black swans and two white swans in the Chiang Mai Chaloem Phrakiat Park lake, they too have reported great numbers of visitors, especially after school and on weekends.

The Night Safari has donated four more white swans recently, expanding the flock.

Vendors are popping up and the PAO says the park is attracting visitors like never before.
