Good things come to those who wait. And wait we have, as year after year, decade after decade we visited Warorot Market and wandered up, step by step, the old escalator to the second floor.
Today you can see people taking photos and videos as they watch friends and family gliding up the now spanking new escalator. The operators of Warorot Market decided learner this year to fix this old broken escalator following requests from market vendors. Today, it opened to much fanfare.
“Our market opened officially 115 years ago in 1910 and is considered a historic site here in Chiang Mai. Around 50 years ago, unfortunately we have lost the exact date through time, an elevator was installed but after being in use for only a few years it broke down and we were unable to afford to repair it.,” said Jesica Meepol, Warorot Market manager.
“We are very happy to now be able to get it working again and we hope that we will have more visitors to the market.”
