Authorities are working at full steam to dredge the Ping River, widening and deepening our river in anticipation of heavy rains later on this season.
Currently areas of the river are less than two metres deep, and the aim is to dredge it to four metres, as well as widening most stretches of the river to 40 metres wide. The rains are anticipated between September and October.
The last time a project this big was conducted on the Ping River was 13 years ago, following heavy floods in 2012, following the devastating 2011 floods. The total stretch of the river being worked on is 41 kms.
Works began on the 1st of June and will continue for the next month or so.
