Chiang Mai Invites Chinese to Play Golf

 | Fri 12 Jul 2013 12:33 ICT

CityNews – Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has organized a project called “China Common Project Golf Tournament 2013,” inviting Chinese tourists to test and play golf courses in Chiang Mai.

Sansern Ngaorungsi, Deputy Governor of Asia and South Pacific Market of TAT said the project aims to promote Thailand’s golf tourism in China thereby boosting sales of golf packages and creating awareness that Thailand is a diverse tourist destination providing lots of worthwhile activities.

Along with the “China Common Project Golf Tournament 2013,” TAT has invited more than 150 Chinese tourists and members of the press who are interested in golf to participate in a golf competition during 15-18 July, which will take place at five different golf courses in Chiang Mai: Alpine Golf Resort, Chiang Mai Inthanon Golf Resort, Chiang Mai Highland Golf & Spa, Mae Jo Golf Club & Resort, and Summit Golf Valley. There will be an awards ceremony at Alpine Golf Resort in the evening, where prizes will be presented to both team and singles winners.

TAT has emphasized that the golf market in China is a market with great opportunities for growth as the interest in the sport increases. Thailand has the potential to strengthen its golf market because of its numerous facilities, such as driving ranges and training institutions with affordable quality trainers. It is an ideal place to arrange annual world-class golf tournaments, such as the Royal Trophy and Thailand Ladies Open (LPGA) tournaments, which are world renowned.

TAT expects the project, “China Common Project Golf Tournament 2013,” to help Thailand become a leading golf market in South East Asia by increasing the number of tourists from China and promoting sales packages combining golf and touristic activities in Chiang Mai city.
