US Ambassador Meets Chiang Mai Governor

CityNews – United States Ambassador Glyn T. Davies and embassy personnel visited the Pawin Chamniprasart, Chiang Mai Governor, to discuss relations between nations as well as issues such as air pollution which are affecting the health of tourists as well as residents of Chiang Mai.

There were discussions on strategies for the future of the city, the proposed expansion of the airport in order to accommodate expanding tourist numbers and the proposed budget request to the central government for a city-wide monorail system.

The governor told the ambassador that Chiang Mai had seen a large economic shift from that of agriculture a decade ago to the improvement of the service industry such as the spa and hotels industries. He believes that new markets will include that of software and organic products.

Ambassador Davies expressed his concerns regarding the air pollution and forest fires and the governor explained that there were many initiatives in the works to combat this issue.
