Traffic Police Make Plans for Songkran Crackdown

CityNews – Traffic police prepare for upcoming Songkran Festival.

As Songkran, the annual national festival from April 12th-16th, approaches it is expected that the transportation services will be in high demand and traffic will increase drastically. The Provincial Police Region 5 and Chiang Mai traffic police announced that officers will be randomly testing the blood alcohol level of drivers and installing speeding checkpoints across the town. The officers also announced that large vehicles are prohibited on the route to Wat Phra Doi Suthep, Wat Phra That Doi Kham, Doi Inthanon and Doi Ang Khang. Over 300 officers and volunteers will be on duty to prevent accidents during the festival.
