At 14:00 on July 19th, police officers received reports about a robbery that took place in front of the Government Savings Bank on Tha Pae Road, Chiang Mai sub- district. Once arrived to the site, the police interviewed the victim, Ms. Pimpmol Pengluejai, a 44 years old coffee shop owner from Jomthong district. Ms. Pengluejai reported that prior to the robbery, she arrived to the Government Savings Bank to deposit 9,000 baht worth of cash. As she was depositing the money into the machine, a man in his twenties with a black shirt, helmet, and pants parked his motorcycle on the roadside, approached her, and pulled the cash out of her hand. The police detected the robber’s identity through the CCTV recordings. The officers were able to identify the motorcycle that the robber used, went to the address that the motorcycle owner has been recorded to reside, and found Mr. Sriwichai using the same motorcycle. The officers then brought Mr. Sriwichai to the Muang Chiang Mai Police Station for further investigation.

During the press conference, Mr. Sriwichai admitted to have committed the robbery. On the day of the event, he drove his motorcycle to the said area and observed that the victim had a lot of cash at hand. Overtaken by greed, he parked his motorcycle and snatched the money out of her hand, then quickly escaped by his motorbike. He spent all the money on alcohol and prostitute services, before the police caught him at his residence. Through further investigation, the police found that this robber has previously been caught handling drugs in 2008, and had just been released from his term in prison on January 2nd 2014.

Police officers suspect that Mr. Sriwichai have recently committed many similar robberies and urge residents who suspect of having been robbed by Mr. Sriwichai to come forth and inform the police, so that further legal actions can be taken.
