On December 14, the Chiang Mai Municipality responded to the footage by holidng a meeting with the market’s entrepreneurs and other organisations including the Chiang Mai Provincial Livestock Office and the Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office, to set up a long-term plan to improve cleanliness in the market and other markets around the city.

The plan included local organisation, examining permits of all vendors and general cleaning programs to be implemented.

The project is already underway, in a bid to win back customers and prove they are dedicated to keeping the marketplace clean.

On the afternoon of December 14, the municipality sprayed chlorine on the floors of the market, in a bid to get rid of the rats.

Other entrepreneurs in other markets have also been asked to join another meeting on the same matter later this month.

According to Deputy Mayor Natchudet Wiriyadiloktham, there are around 100 vendors selling meat including pork, beef and chicken in 15 markets around the city of Chiang Mai.
