The hotel staff, had called the tourist police earlier to inform them that the man in question was seen wandering around the hotel mumbling to himself. The tourist police arrived and followed him around, trying to engage him in conversation. The man ignored all overtures, according to tourist police, and walked up to his room on the 6th floor. The tourist police followed him into his room and saw the man walk to the refrigerator to grab a bottle of water, after which he immediately turned around and jumped out of the window.

Chiang Mai police arrived at the scene soon after and found no note or any explanation as to why he had jumped.
