CityNews – A longtime mahout of a male elephant at Chiang Mai Zoo was killed yesterday after the elephant charged him.
Nipon Wichairat, director of the zoo, released a statement yesterday saying that the elephant named Billy had charged his mahout, Somsak Panna, at around 8.30am on March 22.
The incident occurred while two mahouts were trying to move the elephant to his compound.
The vets at the zoo believe the elephant was stressed due to the high temperatures and the fact the elephants often being their heat cycle around this time.
The zoo will hold a funeral ceremony at the zoo.
