Editor of Chiang Mai’s First Newspaper Shares His Stories About HM The King

CityNews – On October 15, reporters visited Mr. Vichitr Chaiyawan, the former editor of the Kon Muang Newspaper, the first local newspaper of Chiang Mai to hear his stories about the late King and about when he accompanied the King and the Queen on an official state visit to America in 1960.

92-year-old Vichitr talked about the trip and showed the very cameras and films he used when on the state visit. He was given a pass to follow the King and Queen around Los Angeles, Washing DC, New York and also to visit the Mount Auburn Hospital, the King’s birthplace.

He told the press that he had to send articles back by post that took around two weeks to arrive in Chiang Mai. It was the immediately published in the Kon Muang Newspaper. That copy of the newspaper was in high demand for over three months.

He said that this trip was the proudest moment of his life. He said he was saddened by the King’s passing but will strive to be a good person and follow the Kings teachings forevermore.
