CityNews – Police arrested a Hmong couple, originally from Tak province, and seized over 500,000 yaba pills, valued at around 100 million baht, a van, and two mobile phones on August 10.
The couple was identified as Yutthasat Seesakulthong, 29, and Maihua Saethor, 18 and were arrested at a checkpoint in Lampang while they were headed to Bangkok.The drugs had been stashed inside the air vents of the vehicle.
The vehicle also transported a 14-year-old teenager and three children aged 11, 7, and 2, who are the suspects’ children and relatives.
According to Yutthasat and Maihua, they used to be farmers and van drivers, yet they could not make a good income to raise their children. Hence, when their close friend, known as Somchai, contacted them to transfer the drugs, they accepted to do the task in order to get a share of the money. They took their children and relatives with them so that the police wouldn’t note they were transferring the drugs.
They also confessed that they earlier had done the same crime once and this was their second time.
On the same day, a Lahu man, identified as 36-year-old Laoser Arju, was also arrested with 80,000 yaba pills hidden in fertiliser sacks in Chiang Mai’s Chai Prakarn district.
He confessed that he was hired to transfer the drugs from Fang to Chai Prakarn for 30,000 baht and he had done the same crime on many occasions.
They all will be prosecuted.
