There is a lovely charm in watching hot water being poured onto ground coffee beans and allowing nothing but gravity and time to brew it into an aromatic and tasty cup of coffee. The classic Vietnam drip coffee is one such device which is different from the ubiquitous compressor.

Café Kantary on Nimmanhaemin Road is in no rush either, and now serves slow-drip coffee, Vietnamese style.

Vietnam Drip Coffee uses a stainless steel cup with a filter plate. After pouring hot water onto ground and roasted fresh coffee beans, the coffee gradually drips into the coffee cup below onto a foundation layer of sweetened condensed milk. This methodical drip makes you wait between three to five minutes and when served, you simply stir in the condensed milk, making for a bold, strong sweet sip.

Try the colourful Fruit Tart or the delicious Chocolate Toast soaked with juicy butter, and all crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, served with banana, whip cream and vanilla ice cream, both the perfect accompaniment to the perfect Vietnam drip.
