CityNews – Songtaew argues malfeasance after he is charged with inappropriate parking.

On March 26th, Korn Karnkanokpon, 62, a songtaew driver pulled over in Warorote Market to drop his wife off to buy some orange. A policeman then approached him and explained that he was parking inappropriately before giving him a ticket. Korn accepted the charge but then he noticed that the police did not charge the car in front of him who also did not park properly. He made his point to the officer but was told that the other car was dropping goods, therefore the office made an exception.

Korn later took the matter to the police station demanding an investigation into the officer on discrimination grounds. He also stated that he will pay the fine in full. He cited the criminal code section 157 which states that an official who wrongfully exercises or does not exercise any of his functions to the injury of any person, or dishonestly exercises or omits to exercise any of his functions, shall be punished with imprisonment of one to ten years or fined of two thousand to twenty thousand baht, or both.
