CityNews – A conference on product organisation and selecting suppliers for markets was held on May 13. The meeting was to discuss the future of Chiang Mai markets across town.
The conference was attended by the Military Circle 33, the Governor of Chiang Mai, Prawin Chamniprasart, local police commanders, the 8th Regional Fine Arts Department, and several other business focused government departments.
The conference mentioned Walking Street at Thapae Gate, saying that sales could still continue on the square but must not obscure the gate and views of the gate. They also announced that despite many public appeals, the vintage and secondhand market near Prince Royal’s School will be not allowed to re-open.
A list of over 800 market suppliers was also reduced to just 264 suppliers. New suppliers will have to be re-approved by local authorities. The next conference will be held on May 18, 2016 to check the status of the decisions made.
