Locals Disturbed by Tree Theft

CityNews – A 63 year old Chinese man has been caught stealing trees from a local neighbourhood.

Residents of a neighbourhood in Muang Kaew, Mae Rim District have been disturbed to find their trees missing. The disappearances began in February. The suspect, a male in his 60s, was caught on the CCTV camera of a restaurant in the neighbourhood, early morning on February 18th. The footage revealed that he arrived in a bronze Toyota Vios, took a planted pot from in front of the house next door to the restaurant, and left. According to the report, two trees have been stolen from the neighbourhood daily.

The suspect’s car was then seen again in the neighbourhood on March 4th, and residents were able to catch the suspect and report him to the police. He has since been identified as Jin Pu Huai, 63, a Chinese national. The case led police to search his spacious 100 sq. wah home, valued at over five million baht, where they found the stolen trees. The suspect claimed that he was compelled to take the trees into his care. He claimed to be unaware that the trees were owned. Huai was charged with thievery.
