Officials found the body of Stephen Malcolm Roston, 62, lying on the bed in the Changklan Road hotel. He was wearing a pair of white jeans but no shirt.

His mouth was covered with a plastic mask connected to a helium tank at the bedside, and another tank was found in the room, the Bangkok Post reported.

Police believe he had been dead for three or four days. His computer was turned on and none of his valuables were missing.

A suicide note left on the table said he intended to end his life by inhaling helium while listening to songs on his computer. He had also set the timer to turn the television off.

Hotel staff said Roston had rented the room for around sevens months, and was not very sociable. His occupation was given as architect in the hotel registration. His relatives have been informed.
