Almost Fiction

Exhibition by Apichatpong Weerasethakul

Curated by Sébastien Tayac
Duration: 21 December 2019 – 21 February 2020
Opening: 21 December 2019 | 18:30
Location: Gallery Seescape, Chiang Mai

Through this exhibition, the arrangement of various sizes, subjects and styles of photography in the two exhibition rooms, communicating with each other through a newly opened door, without any apparent – clear and direct – connection between them adds more to this state of doubt. The artist decided to leave the audients the space searching for the answer by themselves. There is an interesting feature of Apichatpong’s work which creates a border between fiction and reality that could be possible in both way or the other ways.  It depends on how the audients perceive the situation.

About the artist, Aphichatpong Weerasethakul was born and raised in Khon Kaen province in the northeast region of Thailand. Since 1994 he has consistently made short films which were screened among interested parties. He is widely known both as an artist and a director. His unique rhythm and story-telling style employ stillness and mystery. With both these elements are hidden in folklore, his 2010 full-length film titled ” Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives ” won an award on the international stage at the
Golden Palm in Cannes. In 2019 he was selected to perform at the prestigious Biennale Arte festival held by Venice Biennale.
