Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden Hosts Exquisite Khon Performance “For the Mother of the Land,” Honouring Her Majesty the Queen Mother and Promoting Thai Arts and Nature Conservation
Chiang Mai, 7 February 2026 — The Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden Organization (QSBO), under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, staged an exquisite Khon performance titled “For the Mother of the Land”, presenting the episode “The Battle of Indrajit – The Milk Arrow (Kshira-Tara Revives Life)” at the Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Boonlue Thammathoranurak, Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai, and was attended by honorary consuls, senior government officials, private sector representatives, members of the media, and more than 400 distinguished guests.
Mr. Wattana Sakchuwong, Director of the Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden Organization, said the event was held to express profound gratitude for the immeasurable royal grace of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, revered as the Mother of Biodiversity Conservation. Her Majesty has long devoted herself to the conservation of Thailand’s natural resources and plant diversity. The Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden stands as a significant royal project, having received Her Majesty’s royal visits on nine occasions—reflecting her steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation’s biodiversity.
The Khon performance was organized under the concept of harmoniously integrating arts and culture with nature, using one of Thailand’s highest forms of classical performing arts as a medium to raise public awareness and inspire young people to appreciate the value of Thailand’s natural heritage and cultural legacy—both of which form the foundation of a sustainable Thai society.
The selected Khon episode, “The Battle of Indrajit – The Milk Arrow,” powerfully conveys themes of love, gratitude, and the profound bond between mother and child, resonating deeply with the compassion and benevolence embodied by Her Majesty the Queen Mother.
The event also featured the exhibition “Under Royal Patronage: Arts of the Land” presented by the QSBO; a Thai textile fashion show by Queen Academy and Training Room by Kru Wanne; performances of royal compositions by a Thai–Western ensemble; and a Khon performance by the Chiang Mai College of Dramatic Arts—together creating a memorable and deeply moving experience for all attendees.
