Loy Krathong, Yee Peng 2564 press conference at Thapae Gate. The Mayor of Chiang Mai Assanee Buranupakorn announced the ‘New Normal’ Loy Krathong 2021 from 19 – 20 November 2021: with cultural activities happening across the whole of the city until the end of November. November 19-20 Chiang Mai Yee Peng Festival 2021 under the theme of “Chiang Mai: City of Happiness” The city will be decorated with a thousand of lanterns from 4 city gates 5 corners (old town area),Tha Pae gate, Lanna Folklife Museum, Three Kings Monument , Iron Bridge (Black Bridge), Nawarat Bridge, Nakhonping Bridge. The highlight for this year is the biggest Lanna lantern in the World with the height of 7.25 meters with the purpose of celebrating Chiang Mai 725th Anniversary located at the landmark of the city at Tha Pae Gate. This will create the festive vibes to welcome tourists in the high season of tourism in Chiang Mai province during 5-20 November, 2021.The Grand Krathong Float Contest for the coveted Royal Trophy will be conducted under the concept of “Chiang Mai: the most splendid City of Culture and Prosperity”. There is no Krathong Float procession again this year but the splendor and beauty remain. The display of Krathong Floats will be installed 7 locations around the city (Tha Pae Gate, Three Kings Monument, Changpuek Gate, Suandok Gate, Sompet Intersection, Chiang Mai Gate and Chiang Mai Municipality Office). The activities will also include lighting Pang Prateed candles to illuminate the city, Mister and Miss Yee Peng Contest, Yee Peng Kids Contest to be held (via an online platform), Lanna Lanterns Contest (Hanging Lantern), Krathong Making Contest, Releasing Continually Floating of Candle Trays (Sapao), Forest Gate Decoration and various kinds of cultural activities. At the city gates, people visiting these areas will have their temperatures taken, use Alcohol gel for their hands and wear must masks. Komloys or flying lanterns will be not allowed to be released within the city limits. There will not be any official firework displays this year.
