Holy Relics From India Proceed To Ubon

The Holy Relics of Lord Buddha and his foremost disciples Arahant Sariputta and Arahant Maha Mogallana from India which are currently in Thailand for exposition as part of Ganga – Mekong Dhammayatra from February 22 to March 19, proceeded to Ubon Rachathani this morning from Wing 41. Consul Krishna Chaitanya led the delegation accompanying the Holy Relics to Ubon. The Holy Relics are rarest of the rare category and rarely taken out of India, but this time had been sent to Thailand by the Government of India on the occasion of the 6th Cycle of and 72nd birth anniversary of His Majesty The King Rama X following a request by the Government of Thailand.
The Holy Relics, which arrived at Chiangmai on March 04 morning, were enshrined at Chiangmai’s Hor Kum Luang since the evening of March 04 to March 08 during which over five hundred thousand of devotees paid obeisance. This figure does not include the monks, differently abled and the aged who had a separate entry to the venue and were not counted. Earlier over a million devotees had paid obeisance to the relics over ten days in Bangkok from February 23 to March 03. The Holy Relics would be in exposition at Ubon Rachathani from March 10 to 14 and then proceed to Krabi for four days’exposition before being returned to India on March 19.
