Written by renowned playwright Ntozake Shange, and Directed by Stephan Turner, the production will be performed in readers theater format, combining poetry, dance, music, and monologues to explore the experiences of Black women in America. The play was first performed in 1976 and has since become a landmark work in American theater. The play consists of a series of interconnected poems performed by seven women, each identified only by a color, such as Lady in Yellow, Lady in Purple, Lady in Blue, and so on. The poems explore themes of identity, womanhood, love, sexuality, abuse, and empowerment .
