Conservation of Traditional Lanna Architecture in Chiang Mai University’s Lanna Traditional House Museum. U.S. Mission to Thailand Chargé d’Affaires Michael Heath and U.S. Consul General Chiang Mai Sean O’Neill presided over the grant closing ceremony of the $150,000 grant provided to Chiang Mai University’s Center for the Promotion of Arts and Culture for the “Conservation of Traditional Lanna Architecture in Chiang Mai” project. Representing the University was Vice President Assoc. Prof. Rome Chiranukrom and Assist. Prof. Vilawan Svetsreni, Project Director and Director of the Centre for the Promotion of Arts and Culture of Chiang Mai University. The grant was part of the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation Project (AFCP). Since 2001 the U.S. has supported 20 such projects throughout Thailand, ranging from documentation of cultural traditions to preservation of textiles to architectural restoration; totaling over 2.5 million U.S. Dollars.
