Lighting of the Christmas Tree at Central Chiang Mai Airport “The Magical Stars”
“The Magical Stars: WEAVING THE FUTURE, EMBRACING THE ORIGIN”
Central Chiangmai Airport proudly presents this year’s Light Up Craft Christmas Tree Celebration, under the theme “WEAVING THE FUTURE, EMBRACING THE ORIGIN”, honoring Chiang Mai’s identity as a city of exquisite craftsmanship—where heritage and innovation are beautifully intertwined.
In collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University, and VASSANA, a creative bamboo craft brand, the event unveils a magnificent 15-meter craft Christmas tree made from bamboo—an important local economic crop—and traditional weaving techniques. The design draws inspiration from the royal initiatives of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, who has long supported bamboo craftsmanship and the promotion of local artisan careers.
The tree showcases Lanna-style bamboo weaving, symbolizing transformation, connection, and cultural continuity. Every intricate line reflects the mastery of local artisans, brought to life through two core concepts:
Weaving the Future – celebrating creativity, innovation, and forward momentum
Embracing the Origin – honoring cultural roots and the rich identity of Lanna craftsmanship
This craft Christmas tree stands as a tribute to preservation, innovation, and the elevation of local wisdom onto the global stage—while continuing the legacy of royal support toward sustainable economic development.
The opening ceremony was graced by distinguished guests including:
Mr. Weerapong Ritrod, Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai Province
Mr. Weerachot Thirawayamkul, Head of Marketing – Northern Region, Central Pattana PLC
Ms. Chatchanok Thongsamrit, Deputy Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand – Chiang Mai Office
