The British Embassy in Thailand Launches Northern Thailand Roadshow to Celebrate 170th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Between the United Kingdom and Thailand
The British Embassy in Thailand is holding a roadshow in northern Thailand from January 13 to 16, 2026, to celebrate the 170th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Thailand. This roadshow is part of a nationwide series of events to celebrate this historic occasion and is the fourth in a series aimed at strengthening people-to-people ties across various sectors such as business, trade, education, science and innovation, under the theme of “Shared Values & Culture.”
British Ambassador to Thailand, Mark Gooding, and embassy staff traveled to Chiang Rai, Lampang, and Chiang Mai to meet with governors, local communities, and the business sector.
Ambassador Mark Gooding said: “This northern roadshow is a true celebration of the people-to-people ties between the United Kingdom and Thailand through culture, education and sport. Northern Thailand is renowned for its culture and food.” Chiang Mai is a popular destination and is one of the top five provinces with the largest number of British residents in Thailand.
A key event of this roadshow was the British Fair, which has been held since 2025 and is primarily sponsored by BJC Big C Group. It was held at Big C Chiang Mai 2 on January 13th and at Big C Extra Chiang Mai 2 on January 15th, with hundreds of participants from the local community. Both events featured live music, activities, and video presentations celebrating the long-standing partnership between the UK and Thailand.
Throughout the four-day event, the Embassy team met with more than 5 Thai university students.
