CityNews – On 14th January at Chiang Mai Town Hall, the Office of Natural Resources and Environment in Chiang Mai reported the updates of the smog problem. They said that since October 2013 they had set up plans to prevent and reduce it with a number of ways, two of which will be by making firebreaks and making fertilizer from dry leaves.

On the 9th January a special centre was set up in Chiang Mai to run the campaign “80 Days of Smog Care in Chiang Mai” to take care of the annual smog problem in Chiang Mai which is expected to grace the city from 1st February until 21st April 2014.

Currently the weather in Chiang Mai is quite good. There are no bushfires or potential hot spots reported so far. The number of patients with respiratory problems is slightly reduced from the previous year (around 150,000 in 2012 and 69,000 in 2013).
