CityNews – On 27th June at Chiang Mai Provincial Police Station police held a press conference after they arrested three suspects, Chanon Chotpanatuwanit (25), Weerayut Panklad (16) and Kornsang Lungjang (15), who police found in possession of a pink handbag, a white-blue bag, and the ATM card of a bag-snatch victim Budsaba Phatiwarakorn.
On 26th June, around 8.35 a.m. Budsaba told police she had been riding her motorcycle with a friend along Rachamanka Road on her way to study at university. She said three teenagers on a motorcycle came from behind her and snatched her handbag and then rode away.
Police looked at CCTV footage and were able to see the faces of three teenagers.
An investigation led police to the Royal Chilton Residence, near Jedyod Temple, whereupon they found the men believed to be the bag snatchers.
The suspects confessed to police that they usually hit international tourists around Chiang Mai city.
A Chinese tourist was the victim of a bag-snatch, also on June 26th. It happened on Nimmanhaemin Road, Soi 17. Police believe it was the same group.
