Stepping up mountain patrol

The military and many other government offices have dispatched personnel to patrol the Huay Tung Tao area and surrounding mountains 24 hours per day to prevent possible forest fires along the Doi Suthep-Pui national park.

Patrol is stepped up in the evenings as this tends to be the time when poachers and other nefarious people enter the forests either by foot or by motorbike, said a representative of the efforts.

Military Circle 33 and fire fighters are working closely with community leaders and forest rangers to patrol the most vulnerable areas of the mountain range to protect it from fires similar to last year’s devastating fires seen by residents of the city night after night.

Drones are also flown night and day to look out for new hot spots. Different organisations are responsible for different areas and are also building fire breakers.

According to the command centre to fight forest fires and PM2.5 particles, 40 hot spots were found this morning.
