School uniform shop reports 50% down in sales

One week until schools across Chiang Mai may open in full and many parents are struggling to afford to get their children ready for school.

CityNews visited a school uniform shop whose owner said sales are down 50% in comparison to normal pre-school year sales. He said that he has heard similar numbers from other vendors and says many parents who used to purchase three uniforms per child are now only purchasing one or two.

The reason many parents are also struggling is that over the past two years children have grown out of their uniforms while being at home, so there is a need for more new uniforms than normal.

Schools across Chiang Mai will likely be open as normal next Monday, according to authorities, though there may be some caveats put in place. CityNews will report when confirmed.
