CityNews – The Director of the Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation surveyed Chiang Mai in preparation for rain making.

On June 7th, Lersak Rewtarkulpaiboon, the Director of Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation visited Wing 41, Chiang Mai to join in a meeting to discuss Hygroscopic Flare Research for Rainmaking 2016. Simply put, Hygroscopic Flare Seeding is a process in which a salt solution is diffused across the base of a warm cloud to alter its structure and create rain.

This joint project between the Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation and the Royal Thai Air Force aims to reduce the use of finely powdered sodium chloride (NaCl) as it coagulates and is difficult to use.

The Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation had researched and adjusted its Hygroscopic Flare since 2004 and successfully in 2006.

In addition, the experiment found that these calcium chloride hygroscopic flare and sodium chloride hygroscopic flare are better and more effective in creating raindrop embryos than normal rain that doesn’t used hygroscopic flare in the cloud.

In addition they planned to add more rain to Ping River from June 1st until August 31st by this method. There will also be major rainmaking efforts for the Bhumibol Dam area.
