CityNews – 21st November 2019, Sa-nguan Karn Chang is preparing to dismantle the plaza in front of Maya (1,600 square metres) to be finished within 15 days (by 3rd December 2019) under the supervision of Chiang Mai Highway District.

Following the conclusion from a meeting at Chiang Mai City Hall between Chiang Mai governor, relevant Chiang Mai authorities and public sectors on 20th November 2019, it was agreed that the plaza would be demolished according to the law.  Since the area is under the responsibility of the Highway Department, which had previous plans for the land, it must be given a green light.  However, there were some concerns from some people.  These were brought to representatives of the highway district to consider.

Deputy Director of Department of Highway 1 confirmed that there was a need to improve traffic flow.  The highway department said that it was certain that around 80% of people would be satisfied, and this would benefit all people and make a beautiful space for Chiang Mai.
