Plans in place in case of possible epidemic, say authorities

CityNews – 27th February 2020, Charoenrit Sanguansat the Governor of Chiang Mai directed relevant departments to work together to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19 virus by ordering the Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospital and network to create a continual campaign for public awareness.

Governor Charoenrit has requested districts to raise awareness through village health volunteers, coordinating and utilising the network of temples, schools, village leaders, and sub-district leaders to inform people to observe their symptoms daily. He asks that all citizens take care to protect themselves strictly, eat hot food, use a serving spoon, wear a mask, wash hands frequently, do not touch eyes, nose, stay healthy and avoid going into populated areas. Strict screenings will continue at public spots such as bus stations, railway and airports.

Dr Chatuchai Maneerat from the Chiang Mai Public Health revealed that the Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office has planned for the possibility of an epidemic with a ‘Table Top’ plan in case of widespread contamination. This plan has been created with the cooperation of the Chiang Mai Provincial Police in compliance with the Communicable Disease Act 2015.
