CityNews – September 14th, a large water pipe of around three inches in diameter and 100 metres long, which hung on the ceiling at the parking lot of Big C Extra, Nong Pa Krang branch, fell on cars and motorcycles parked in the area.
The incident caused damages to 19 motorcycles and 14 cars, and a security guard, Nirut Yanaso, was reported to have suffered from injuries. He was later sent to Lanna Hospital.
According to witnesses, they heard a loud noise from the parking lot, less than a minute later the pipe fell on the vehicles and water leaked from the pipe.
The police believe the incident was due to the old equipment, which could not support the weight of the water pump. The department store apologised to their customers and will take care of all the damages.
The investigation continues to find other possible causes.
